Yesterday a fellow guildie wanted to go one on one with his warrior vs. my ranger.

Currently my ranger is set up with a nice interrupt build that I use in EotN, so I figured that's NOT what I would want to use against a warrior.

Could my little ranger girl smack down on a huge armor clad warrior? So what would I use? Pin Down? Traps? Could a ranger win against a warrior 1 on 1? I would say yes with the right build and strategy, but it would require a well thought out build and a lot of skill. I'd like to challenge him, but not until I have a decent chance of winning.

Any ideas from anyone? Stories? Advice?

[Crippling Shot][Apply Poison][screaming shot][Savage Shot][distracting shot]

=Win in 100 seconds.

Skill #1 to keep him away from you, skills 2 and 3 for degen pressure, skill 4 for interrupting random skills, skill 5 for interrupting Healing Signet.

Dshot > Disrupting shot, but yea that's basically it. Takes a good knowledge of how to position yourself.

^^ Cripple him and just use bleeding and poison to degen him to death. Bring D-Shot and maybe a couple other interupts should he decide to heal himself. Should be easy pickings. Ideally he'll never get close to pose a threat. If you're stupid enough to stand there while he's charging at you with a head full of steam you deserve to lose.

Except for the elite Crippling Shot (which is not one of the five elites I currently have) I have all those others on my current build. I'll check out CS and where I can cap it, if it's up by Ring of Fire islands, that'll be a problem. I only went as far as Beacons with this ranger and then I got a run to Droknar's where I leveled her to 20, went to Lion's Arch and I've been in EotN ever since.

My ranger has a mesmer secondary, any mesmer skills that might help?

Actually, I thought I was a hard core ele player until I meet my ranger (I totally adore rangers now), so I'm used to playing squishy characters that can't go toe to toe with any melee character. I don't let anyone get close to me, so you can't bet I'm not going to stand there. That's suicide.

My strategy I think in this is exactly what you said, though, about not letting him get close enough to pose a threat. I'll have to keep him pinned down, crippled and bleeding and then dope slap him with an interrupt if he decides to heal.

I'm going to make a build this afternoon and get used to it before I challenge him though.

yeah not really. cripshot build i linked, generic (but good) ranger build, not much thought, easy to keep a war crippled and poisoned while kiting his crippledness.

I'd follow the Cripshot build Rhamia gave you, swapping out the res sig for [[Debilitating Shot].

Or for the lulz run a touch ranger and laugh in his face if you win.

Or for EPIC lulz drop Mending Touch and go R/Me for [[Sympathetic Visage].

Comeon Falynn! You made a great impression on some of your previous posts! Don't let us down!

Just pack Pin Down and watch him die to your extreme DPS of 8 with Apply Poison, or take Melandru's Shot and predict him to get the cripple onto him. I personally think you should take Pin Down and Melandru's Shot for a guaranteed snare and a pressure based attack skill.

There is absolutely no way a Ranger could lose against a Warrior in a skirmish. The only time you should lose is when the Warrior is running a shit load of healy crap which would be too much for a Ranger to shut down.

[pin down][melandru's shot][apply poison][natural stride][no skill][no skill][no skill][no skill]

And you've practically won. You can use Hunter's Shot for Melandru's Shot, but I'd like to run both if I'm running Melandru's Shot.

Hi. And BTW I'm a she. So to be correct here it's "I'm the warrior she's 1v1ing". Yes. A true and real female. LOL.

I'm going to look into getting [crippling shot].

Really, my biggest hurdle is mental; that is to get past my natural female-like reluctance to go 1 on 1. Maybe some females are okay with it, but I've never been a PvP kinda player.

P.S. I just found out that I can get [crippling shot] in EotN in the Drakkar Lake area from the boss Koren Wildrunner. That's pretty easy, so I'm off to snag it.
